Brumation FAQ

Brumation FAQ

  • Why is my bearded dragon sleeping, acting lethargic, not eating, and hiding?
These are common symptoms of brumation, but can also indicate sickness or parasites. The difference: during brumation your dragon should not lose weight. A fecal check is recommended if you’re unsure.

  • Should I keep lights the same during brumation?
Yes, keep the same schedule. In the wild, daylight cycles don’t change.

  • What should I do if my bearded dragon is in brumation?
Don’t disturb them — it can cause stress and prolong the process. It’s normal for them to rest heavily. You can offer a small salad, but if they don’t eat, that’s okay.

  • How long does brumation last?
It can last days, weeks, or months. Some dragons cycle in and out. Some brumate, others don’t — it varies.

  • How old can they be when they brumate?
Usually after one year old. If younger, lethargy could be a health issue — best to see a vet.
